The Ecology of Conversation consists of 16 short chapters in two sections (Inner Ecology and Outer Ecology).

In Part I, Inner Ecology, the chapters contain true stories that illustrate out-of-the-box thinking regarding one’s choice of response in a conversation or interaction.

At the end of each chapter, the reader is invited to self-inquire about the source of his or her response: “Am I responding to the actual situation or am I fueled by automatic, conditioned or biased information? If I’m operating from a bias, what is its source?”

In Part II, Outer Ecology, the chapters focus on conversational skills with assumptions suspended: “How can I converse authentically to the current situation, free of my natural biases? How can I remain in the present?” Self-inquiry questions follow each chapter in II as well.

The glue that conjoins the chapters is the desire for greater self and other awareness resulting in healthier interactions with self and others.

With Artist’s Way-type questions following each chapter, it is great for book clubs.
