Velma has come to the beach on Amelia Island…with her best friend, Chipper!

Well, not really. Velma and Chipper are new characters created by yours truly and incorporated in ceramic art on sale at the San Jon Art Gallery, 3rd and Ash, Fernandina Beach.

Here is Velma with Chipper. She is ready to get a beautiful Amelia Island tan, wearing her tasteful bikini, sun glasses, towel and carry all: 6” in diameter and 6” high.

The bowl and vessels were thrown on a wheel. Low fired at 1880 degrees, hand painted with lead-free underglazes, low fired a second time, hand painted with 3 coats of lead-free clear glaze, and low fired one last time.

Each firing takes 16 hours: 8 hours to heat up and reach temperature and 8 hours to cool down.

I used lead-free paints so that theses pieces can be used with food. They are dishwasher safe; however, we recommend hand washing.
